Key animator of Isle of Dogs by Wes Anderson, Academy Awards 2019 nominee, to deliver a lecture on stop motion animation in Kyiv

On 20 April 2019 at 4 PM, IMAX Planeta Kino will host a meeting with Tim Allen, a well-known British stop motion animator with almost 20 years of experience.

During his lecture titled "Stop Motion Animation: breathing life frame by frame" Tim will tell the audience which techniques and preparation are necessary to make a clay ball or a still doll come to life on a big screen: from storyboard and endless rehearsals to creating animation step by step, from one carefully constructed frame to the next. You will hear how the scenes were created in such cartoons as Isle of Dogs (2018) and Fantastic Mr Fox (2009) by Wes Anderson, Corpse Bride (2005) and Frankenweenie (2012) by Tim Burton and many others – from an animator who constructed them himself.

Allen created animation for Academy Award-winning Peter and The Wolf (2006) by Suzie Templeton and Academy Award nominee My Life as a Zucchini (2016) by Claude Barras. For many years he has worked on TV series including Fireman Sam, Creature Comforts and Postman Pat; he also animated 29 episodes of Shaun the Sheep for Aardman Animation. Tim worked as an animation supervisor for Magic Piano and Club Penguin specials for Disney. Besides, Tim constantly holds workshops and meetings with young and experienced animators.

The lecture will be preceded by a five-day practical workshop on April 15-19 for seven participants which Tim Allen has selected from a pool of candidates based on their experience and showreels of works made in stop motion technique.
